The long-awaited 7th Ave roadway
and water main replacement project
is set to begin March 31, 2025,
following delays due to historic
findings requiring additional
approvals. The project includes full
roadway reconstruction from
Lombard St/Hwy 30 to the southern
city limits and replacing the aging 4-
inch water main (originally installed
in 1926!) with a new 8-inch main.
Key Points:
RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES ALONG THE ENTIRE 7TH AVE CORRIDOR SHOULD IMMEDIATELY REMOVE ANY OBJECTS/LANDSCAPING WITHIN THE RIGHT-OF-WAY THAT THEY WANT TO KEEP. STARTING 3/31/25 MATERIALS WITHIN THE RIGHT-OF-WAY WILL BEGIN TO BE REMOVED BY THE CONTRACTORS AND WILL NOT BE RETURNED. THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO MAILBOXES AS THOSE WILL BE RELOCATED BY THE CONTRACTORS.
Road Closures: 7th Ave will be closed to thru traffic; only residents in the work zone and emergency vehicles will have access (please use the alley to access your property if possible.)
Water Service Impacts: Brief, unplanned water service interruptions may occur. Notify the City if you suspect your service line is lead.
Driveways: Driveways are planned to be replaced to the front of the sidewalk only, with existing driveway widths maintained. Sidewalks are not planned to be replaced.
Timeline: Work will begin at the south end and continue north through November 2025. Residents should use caution near the construction zone and follow detour signage. Thank you for your patience as we complete this much-needed improvement.
